Here is a little minimalist photography that I find very pleasing. The artist is José Javier Serrano and goes by Yosigo. I especially like the use of blank space and a muted palate. I find it to be very ethereal both stylistically and subject wise. On a side note, the artist has a very responsive and simple web site by Indexhibit. Two great examples of minimalism in one go.

Back To The Future
by Irina Werning
Artist’s Statement: I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future.
More here.

I was looking through old photos and I found these snaps of my friend Dale Dreiling. Dale does amazing mixed media art. This series of portraits of Bill Murray (as various characters) was amazing! Visit Dale’s website here.

Another piece from Your Bright Future. A traditional Korean scholar’s house crashes into a US apartment. Fallen Star 1/5 by Do Ho Suh. This piece is massive and amazingly detailed.

Welcome and HappyHappy by Choi Jeong-Hwa out the LACMA. Part of Your Bright Future: 12 Contemporary Artists From Korea. I would definitely recommend checking out this show. It will be at the LACMA until September 20th. You can walk through the strings of plastic containers. It’s fun.

Jan at Poppytalk posted some pictures of these beautiful ceramic clocks by Maria Kristofersson. I would love one of these for my new apartment (alas, not for sale). Jeff & I are moving to Atwater Village this weekend. More details to come.
Please check out Poppytalk to learn more about Maria and see more pictures of her creations:

Today I came across pictures from Lee Gainer’s Two Month Salary exhibit. The show acts on the saying that an engagement ring should cost the equivalent of the man’s salary for two months. Gainer did the math for various professions and collaged them together. Gainer’s artist statement says his art “explores culturally accepted and media supported perceptions” and I think this certainly qualifies. Perhaps I just liked it because of all the sparkely rings. I wouldn’t buy the book but perhaps this will morph into a refrence guide for engaged women everywhere. ;)
This is also another example of insanely simple web design.
